Schafer Construction has been providing construction, design, and development services out of its southeast Michigan office since 1997.   Since its origin, Schafer has focused on delivering highly cost-effective solutions to meet unique project needs.   Never focused on growth for the sake of growth, Schafer has leveraged its boots-on-the-ground approach and commitment to relationships to steadily cultivate its base of projects, subcontractors, clients, and partners.  Throughout its evolution, Schafer has held the principle that every project must benefit from the weight and attention of the entire Leadership Team.

Schafer entered a new era in 2017 when the current President, Matt Vetter, joined the ranks along with its founder. With Matt’s deep experience in land development and innovative design-build experience across the country, Schafer was infused with an entrepreneurial spirit that has shaped the culture and elevated the organization’s impact on the communities it serves.   After assuming the role of President in 2020, Matt has strategically grown the Schafer Team to enhance core processes, bolster its development expertise, expand its subcontractor reach, and elevate the quality of its projects and services.

In addition to the Leadership Team, which continues to guide the success of each project, the in-house Schafer Team is comprised of real estate and construction experts in field supervision, project management, pre-construction, design administration, financial management, and administrative support. 

While Schafer’s internal Team serves as the engine and catalyst for all of its projects, no project is possible without assembling highly qualified and cost-competitive subcontractors.  In recognition of the continued labor shortage in the market and their love for the construction industry, Matt, his wife, Kerry, and the Schafer Team founded the Build Better Foundation in 2024, which raises scholarship dollars used exclusively to fund the education and training of talented individuals looking to enter the construction trades. Promoting the amazing work of the men and women who roll their sleeves up in the field has become a core tenet at Schafer.  Working alongside construction professionals committed to their craft is a privilege and an honor to all who wear the Schafer logo.
